Description of a certificate/label:

A certificate developed by the European Commission, aimed at promotion of goods and services that have a reduced environmental impact. It is awarded to products meeting high environmental standards throughout their whole lifecycle, from raw material extraction to disposal. Not only accommodation businesses may apply for it, but also a wide range of goods’ producers.

Ecolabel has 5 criteria of certification areas, with 22 mandatory criteria and 45 optional criteria. It is recognized in all European countries. Holders may use the Ecolabel starting from the date it is awarded until the end of the period of the validity of the criteria (usually 3-5 years).

External auditors conduct the verification process onsite and afterwards award the certification
